Inaugural Health Initiative | 2019 to Present
The Context
Cancer awareness is where the Foundation’s health education work began.
Since 2019, the Nizar Foundation has run an annual October cancer awareness initiative that has grown steadily over the years from small-scale community conversations into a sustained multi-format initiative spanning Kenya and the United States.
What began as a commitment to create more open conversations around cancer awareness evolved into funded mammogram screenings, educational outreach, counseling access, community activations, digital awareness programming, and institutional engagement connected to breast cancer awareness and preventive health education.
At the center of the initiative has always been one consistent belief: health education, early detection awareness, and emotional support should never feel out of reach for the communities the Foundation serves.
What Happens Every Year
Although the initiative has continued evolving each year, several parts of the awareness efforts have remained consistent throughout its growth:
- Full-month cancer awareness programming throughout October, both online and in person
- Free counseling support available for individuals and families directly or indirectly affected by cancer
- Fully funded mammogram screenings conducted at certified diagnostic centers in Kenya
- Community engagement through the NIZARLINE boutique, where awareness conversations take place in a familiar and accessible environment
- Educational sessions and digital awareness content covering breast cancer awareness, early detection, risk factors, treatment awareness, and support for those living with a diagnosis
The initiative is not approached as a one-time awareness event.
It is approached as a long-term commitment to consistency, education, access, and community support.
